Orientation Day 1

We all woke up at 6AM to get ready to eat the delicious buffet breakfast at 7. I really enjoyed it as I got to have my strawberry yogurt, bacon, and salad. They also had Chinese dumplings which were so good!

Everyone met in the lobby at 8:30 so we could walk to the school together. The walk was a little far and I don’t exactly have “walking shoes,” but I will somehow manage this semester. Until 12, we had info sessions held by the various program staff.

From 12 we had the welcome lunch hosted by all the E-pals. I enjoyed meeting mine and spending time with all the other people. I was able to speak Japanese well and pick up where I left off three weeks ago. I have a long way to go to be proficient in the Japanese workplace, but I am much more confident in everyday conversations. I hope to be able to have deeper conversations in Japanese and not just talk about shallow topics.

We had a few more sessions after the lunch and then we got a campus tour with our E-pal, so I got to practice more Japanese. Honestly this is the most I’ve talked in a long time, since at my internship I mostly practiced reading and writing since people don’t converse too much during office hours and I lived alone with no roommates to talk to. I hope I have more days like this.

For dinner we joined another student and E-pal to eat at a cheap pasta place that was good. I could not believe that one dish was only 300¥-why didn’t go I there this summer?

I took a nice bath when I came back to the hotel and slept early to prepare for the next day.
