Matsuyama 🚌 Takamatsu

Day two of my autumn tour was spent traveling to Takamatsu from Matsuyama. Our morning tour consisted of touring Matsuyama Castle. In order to get to where the castle is, you can take a cable car or chair lift instead of walking. I opted to do the chair lift both ways because it was the most fun and the views were good. Once we got to where the castle is, we spent a short time walking through it. Although it looks big, Matsuyama Castle is quite small compared to places like Himeji Castle, and it is a short and sweet walkthrough. To be honest, I have a hard time seeing the big differences between castles in Japan, but I still of course enjoyed the visit.

The bus ride in total to Takamatsu took three hours, but we stopped along the way for the rest stop and to eat lunch. I ate udon for lunch because this area is known for its delicious udon. To me, udon is udon and I can’t taste too many differences, but it was delicious nonetheless.

The major sightseeing in Takamatsu today was Ritsurin Garden, a gorgeous Japanese style garden. You can take either the 45 minute or 60 minute walk. I chose the longer one but I finished it super quickly and went off exploring by myself. I went to some area I think you aren’t supposed to go to, but as I was walking around I heard some rustling in the bushes and saw some small cat-like animal run away. Too bad I couldn’t get a good view. The garden was super relaxing and the weather was just right.

Upon checking into the hotel we had a nice buffet dinner. I’m eating a lot better this trip so I feel like I have more energy. We will spend two days in Takamatsu, and then travel to Kyoto by bullet train.
