Shibuya and Ebisu

I finally finished all my papers for this semester so I treated myself to going out. I first went to Shibuya and although there were a lot of sales, I refrained from buying anything. It was super cold and crowded and actually I can say now after going many times that it is not my favorite place in Tokyo. Shibuya is very iconic for Tokyo because of its shopping and “scramble crossing,” but there are just too many people and craziness everywhere. Shibuya 109, the popular department store for girl’s fashion, is also just so loud because the shopkeepers scream constantly to get your attention. I prefer a more relaxed place.

あまり健康的じゃないのにね…I did eat at a small cafe in Shibuya 109 though. I have been craving pancakes, so I decided to have some chocolate banana pancakes for dinner. Not the healthiest, but just once is okay.

I also tried to do some shopping at my favorite department store in Shibuya, Shibuya Hikarie, but everything is still out of my budget. They did have pretty Disney princess Christmas trees up for the holiday season.

Afterwards I went to see some more illuminations in Yebisu Garden Place. I had never been there before, and it was such a delight walking through there, despite the freezing cold. It is such a classy place where you can buy holiday themed items. The crowd is noticeably a bit older, but maybe the place reminds me of somewhere I would go with my parents so that’s why I liked it.

There’s this really fancy restaurant that looks like a mini mansion there that’s so pretty! I saw that a whole course of food was about $138, so I will need to get rich before I eat there.

The Westin Hotel is also across the street, so I checked it out. I will most likely intern at a hotel next summer, so I wanted to compare hotel atmospheres within Japan. Their Christmas tree looks like something straight out of an American Christmas movie!

This week is my last week in the program–time flies fast!

  1. I love Japan. Your pictures brought back a lot of good memories. I lived in Japan for a year after college and really found a connection to the people and the country. Thanks for nice reminder of my time there…
