A Spontaneous Week in Tokyo

During my finals week in December I took a spontaneous trip to Tokyo to visit my friends. Actually, “spontaneous” may not be the best word because I booked it two months in advance, but it was spontaneous for me as I have never gone anywhere on my own volition just to see friends and have a good time. I am very thankful to have many part-time jobs and leftover money from my internship to allow me to be able to afford this trip. I am also thankful that I only had papers and a take-home final so that I could leave early to travel.

My first full day in Tokyo was spent going to cafes that I have always wanted to go to but never got the chance. For breakfast, I was really craving pancakes so I Googled what the best pancakes were and a place in Harajuku called Rainbow Pancakes popped up. The restaurant is tucked away in the narrow streets of Harajuku where a lot of stores are.

I also went to the Aoyama Flower Market Tea House which is gorgeous. The front of the shop is a regular flower store, and the back is the cafe. Many of their drinks and foods have natural flower flavorings. The tea I had was delicious and very fruity.

I didn’t meet any friends the first day, but I was able to meet a decent amount on the other days. In my next post I will discuss the other reason why I really wanted to go to Japan in December. Stay tuned!
